Architectural archives tell the story of the built environment and form the sedimentary deposit of a building process, a vision, or the collaboration between clients, designers, contractors and the government. They reveal something about the history of a house, street, city, region or community.

Inventory of architectural archives in Flanders

The CVAa has published a report [Architectural archives in Flanders, a qualitative field description and analysis of the Flemish architectural archive landscape]. In compiling this report, as many architectural archives as possible were located and registered in a digital database. Updating the information is a permanent task [read more]. To do this, we collaborate with [depositories], schools and researchers. The CVAa regularly invites these experts in the form of an informal advisory board.

We pass on expertise about the good management of architectural archives via a publication series Guide to Architectural Archives, a practical toolbox, everyday advice and we also keep you informed of recent developments in Flanders and abroad.
