Isia Isgour (1913 - 1967)
The second book in the ‘Focus on Architectural Archives’ series throws light on the work of Brussels architect Isia Isgour (1913-1967). His oeuvre consists of buildings in Brussels and in the Belgian province of Limburg that are often prime examples of the vitality of the social welfare state in the decades after WWII. In the coal mining area of Limburg he designed housing, schools, cultural centres and other public buildings, and thus played an important part in the promotion of modernist architecture in the region. In Brussels he contributed to the shaping of the city during the building boom of the fifties and sixties.
This richly illustrated book contains an overview of Isgour’s work with descriptions of his architectural projects and references to available archive records. The oeuvre list is preceded by an essay in which the architect is placed within the wider cultural, historical and architectural context of his time. The work concludes with an extensive bibliography.
