The artistic nature of their work is not so much a question of the presence of art (often literally), but of the qualities of the architecture itself. This can also be seen in the new ‘workplace’ that Robbrecht and Daem designed for their own firm and that of Marie-José Van Hee.
Its strength lies undoubtedly in the masterly void of the existing shed, formerly a wood yard built by the De Coene company in the 1970s with a characteristic structure of wooden beams. The former work-floor was turned into an outdoor space, most of it roofed over, which comprises several gardens, a small car park (car garden) and a swimming pool.
The offices have been installed in the former wood store and over their entire length look out over the apparent emptiness of the enclosed garden.
