Sofie De Caigny (Dries Luyten)

Sofie De Caigny is director of the Flanders Architecture Institute and visiting professor in Architecture Critique at the Faculty of Design Sciences of the University of Antwerp. She holds a Ph.D. (2007, University of Leuven) in architectural history and a Postgraduate degree in Cultural Management (2001, Universitat de Barcelona). Her PhD – Bouwen aan een nieuwe thuis - was published at the Leuven University Press. She publishes widely on architectural history and on contemporary architectural culture in Flanders, with a special focus on the relationship architecture has with the past. Sofie De Caigny is editor in chief of the Flanders Architectural Review (editions 2018, 2020 and 2022) and curated various exhibition, amongst which ‘Maatwerk. Architecture from Flanders and the Netherlands’ at the German Architecture Museum, Frankfurt (2016). She was commissioner of ‘Composite Presence’, the entry for the Belgian Pavilion at the 17th Venice Architecture Biennial in 2021. From 2014 to 2022 she served as Secretary General of ICAM – International Confederation of Architectural Museums.
