The client for this project, a family of 5, resided in a standard terraced house situated on a compact plot in the historical centre of Leuven. 51N4E is transforming the house into a collection of interconnected spaces with a highly diverse character. A very large, high and bright space with light originating from above will be at the heart of the project. A small adjoining stone shed will be accessible via a secret staircase. The room adjoining the street will serve as a hall, reception area and storage room. The garden will become an open-air space with green walls and an abundant water feature. Carefully placed building elements will define the spaces: a floating glass roof, thin concrete staircase, terrazzo floor slab, green earth wall and large sliding window. This cluster of rooms is set to become a vaguely defined living environment within the continuum of public and private spaces that make up the urban fabric.
