In designing this residential building in the centre of Brussels, Bovenbouw architectuur drew inspiration from the city’s rich tradition of town houses. The façade is dominated by the abstract figure of a blind bay that simultaneously marks the entrance and structures the façade composition. The blind bay provides interesting oblique views into the narrow street and supports a terrace on the living-room floor. Although somewhat industrial in appearance, the elevations are conceived in intricate undulating brickwork, not unfamiliar to the sculptural treatment of art nouveau façades around the city. A complementary undulating treatment marks the route from the front door to the stairs leading upwards.
