Dierendonckblancke architecten designed this bright apartment building on a very acute and deep plot in Antwerp. The building was conceived as a stacking of four apartments connected by an outdoor staircase. While the building marks the corner of the street with a sturdy volume, the staircase remains open, allowing
for lively interaction between residents and the public sphere. By means of a split-level configuration in which the living quarters are distinguished from the night
quarters, a covered outdoor bike parking was created on the ground floor. The staircase and kitchen windows give out onto a small courtyard, letting daylight into every corner of the interior.

This project is part of the exhibition Composite Presence in the Belgian pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.
Dierendonckblancke architecten: "We participate in the exhibition of Composite Presence with three projects.
- 12K, a single-family row house in Ghent
- Dambruggestraat, a small apartment building in Antwerp
- Proposal for a media building in Brussels, together with Robbrecht en Daem architecten.
We believe these projects were chosen because, on very different scales, they behave like self-assured individuals within the fabric of the city. Buildings, not as neutral spectators but as participators in our daily built environment."
