Groepswoningen Zuidertuin

The Zuidertuin project is a part of the first stage of the development of the ‘New South’ in Antwerp. The master plan was drawn up by Studio Associato Secchi-Vigano and is intended to create a sustainable urban district with a range of functions, abundant greenery and views of the River Scheldt. The housing block by Robbrecht en Daem architecten is on the edge of the site and forms the link with the existing city. This sixstorey rectangular volume contains about fifty housing units (single- and two-storey flats). The light-coloured concrete balconies run all round the building. They determine the dynamic of the modulated façade and the alternation of terraces, windscreens and winter gardens. Commercial premises are located at each end of the ground floor. The roof is to be a communal roof garden with small pavilions from which to enjoy the view while sheltered from the rain or sun.
