BOZAR instructed the ‘POOL IS COOL’ citizens’ platform to develop a scenography for the space between the BOZAR building and the site for the new ING-Paribas headquarters, which thus far had only been used as a passageway. The aim was to create a temporary summer abode that would appeal to a wide range of people, from passers-by to tourists, young people and families. The project also had to tie in with the YO-Brussels exhibition focused on the Brussels Hip-Hop culture with a degree of protest. The unique attraction was the largest (and only) open-air swimming pool in Brussels in the shape of a container. This ridiculously small swimming pool was conceived by the designers as a protest against the perplexing fact that Brussels has no outdoor swimming facilities. Adjacent to the swimming pool, they implemented several wooden platforms that invited people to stay or engage in other activities, complemented by a bar, also in a container, a half-pipe and the use of site fencing as a graffiti wall.
