Christian Kieckens

Architect Christian Kieckens (1951-2020) was a true polymath who played a pivotal role in the Belgian architectural world. He combined his love for art, literature and pop culture with a broad knowledge of architecture and its history. Kieckens produced an architectural oeuvre that is both layered and consistent while also distinguishing himself as a designer/scenographer. As a teacher, both in Belgium and abroad, he was a mentor to many.

In 2014, Christian Kieckens donated his extensive archive to the former Architectural Archives of the Province of Antwerp (now part of the Flanders Architecture Institute collection). This meticulously composed ensemble of artefacts spans his entire career from 1974 to the present day. For Kieckens, it had a clear task: “The archive preserves, reaches out and distances itself.”
