Opening / MAATWERK MASSARBEIT. Custom Made Architecture from Flanders and the Netherlands

07.10.2016, 14:30 to 23:00

The exhibition MAATWERK MASSARBEIT. Custom Made Architecture from Flanders and the Netherlands opens on 7 October 2016 at the German Architecture Museum (DAM) in Frankfurt. A selection of approximately sixty architectural models places the emphasis on tailored work, precision and craftsmanship as undercurrents in Flemish and Dutch architecture of the past thirty years.

'Maatwerk' – or custom made architecture – was one of the selection criteria applied to all of the projects selected in the exhibition and catalogue. What this maatwerk means depends on the building, the building site and the context in which the design emerged. Preliminary on the opening of MAATWERK MASSARBEIT a symposium is organized on the meaning of 'maatwerk' in the work of Flemish and Dutch architects. Several architects are invited to reflect on this matter. The afternoon is divided in four thematical parts, in wich two designers alternately elaborate on 'maatwerk' in their work by presenting one building or design.
