On Sunday 11 October – Architecture Day – you can look behind the scenes in a wide range of buildings in Brussels and throughout Flanders. We would also like to invite you to the award ceremony for the Flemish Culture Prize for Architecture on the evening before Architecture Day. There would be no project without a client, no building without workmen, no planning permission without administrators, no support without citizens, and no architecture without an architect. Every building is the result of collaboration and co-creation. Therefore over the years, architecture has firmly anchored itself – both overtly and discreetly – in the everyday.

That’s why this year’s theme for Architecture Day 2015 is co-creation and experiential value. On Sunday 11 October, we’ll be joining you in discovering buildings that are immersed in the everyday: crèches, schools, group housing, nursing homes, etc. Buildings that offer comfort and security to their residents, but that also enrich and add character to their immediate surroundings. There is a richness to their architecture that excels in projecting a sense of involvement. This is also the subject of ‘Embedded Architectures’, the most recent edition of the ‘Architectural Review Flanders’.

The bi-annual ‘Architectural Review Flanders’ brings together an update on trends in architectural production. ‘Embedded Architectures’, the most recent edition, puts the spotlight on buildings that are embedded in everyday life, both literally and figuratively. The ‘Architectural Review Flanders’, priced at €39.50, is on sale in bookshops or at www.vai.be .

Architecture Day is a Flanders Architecture Institute initiative in collaboration with numerous other partners - www.dagvandearchitectuur.be
