For the development of the Friendship site in the former harbour district 't Eilandje in Antwerp an international call for architects is launched. Cores Development and AG Vespa, who join forces for this project, are seeking an urban planner/architect of (inter)national repute. He/she wil besides the town planning aspect, also take responsability for an architecturally appealing building, with a vision of contemporary living in a superior urban location.
The two sites are located between the Londen-Amsterdamstraat, St-Laureiskaai, Rijnkaai, and Bataviastraat together with a land bank to enable coherent, integrated, and high-quality full development.
Cores Development and AG Vespa both have the ambition of completing a high-quality, financially feasible, and integrated urban project for this strategic and important high-visibility location in the city between the Scheldekaaien, the historical city centre, and Eilandje. The residential project is to be complemented by a lively and attractive street level, including the integration of a Total service station and an underground car park.
The current Friendship building, popularly termed the Chiquita building, is to be demolished, the entire Total service station is to be relocated, and the current land-use plan will be examined and amended as required.
Cores Development and AG Vespa, in cooperation with the city architect Christian Rapp, will select a number of suitable candidates in two phases. The assignment will be awarded based on a competition design. Interested parties can request the specifications of the project with project description and timing at Cores Development.
