In addition to the ‘Eurotopie’ project in the Belgian pavilion, Flemish architects are also well-represented at La Biennale di Venezia this year. For the 16th edition, the curators have invited architects from around the world to lay bare the aspect of free space in their work and, in so doing, formulate a response to the curatorial manifesto of ‘Freespace’.
The Belgian architects selected are:
- MJosé Van Hee architecten
- architecten de vylder vinck taillieu
- BC architects & studies
- Studio SNCDA
In the coming months we will be bringing you more news about the work of Belgian architects at the world-famous Biennale.
The Biennale Architettura 2018 is entitled FREESPACE, a word that describes the generosity of spirit and sense of humanity at the core of architecture’s agenda. With this theme, the curators Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara will present for public scrutiny examples, proposals, elements – built or unbuilt – of work that exemplifies the essential qualities of architecture. These include the modulation, richness and materiality of surface, and the orchestration and sequencing of movement, thereby revealing the embodied power and beauty of architecture.
The project in the Belgian pavilion, Eurotopie, aims to focus on the territorial, physical and symbolic presence of the European Union in Brussels. Belgium’s contribution is produced by the Cellule Architecture de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles in collaboration with Wallonie-Bruxelles International. Read more about the Belgian participation
