The Baukultur symposium and the Biennale 2024 will explore the theme ‘Back to the future’.
How will we live together in the future? Is utopia still possible? Imagination has been exhausted by successive crises, continuous innovation and immediate returns on investment. Today, it faces a closed horizon. Yet architecture's primary task has always been to look to the future: we still see buildings erected decades, even centuries ago. Where have we gone wrong?
Key lecture by Belgian Tom Avermaete, Professor of History and Theory of Urban Planning at ETH Zurich and lecture by Freek Persyn, architect, co-founder of 51N4E, professor at the Faculty of Architecture, director of the Institut d'études urbaines et paysagères.
