Nieuwe Instituut and the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAi) invite 20 Dutch and Flemish architects to take part in the fifth edition of the joint programme Exchange in Practice. Within the theme ‘Building Between the Lines’, architects address the question of how the profession can navigate and challenge the current systems and regulations.

From 2 to 4 March Saai, Archiv für Architektur und Ingenieurbau, organizes the workshop Metadata Ecologies—Translational Struggles in “Intelligent” Archives. Wim Lowet, senior archivist at the Flanders Architecture Institute (VAi) is one of the speakers.

The Horst arts and music festival presents its 2026 art programme. It explores how built structures can function as social infrastructure. In collaboration with the VAi, Belgian landscape architect Bas Smets presents Building Biospheres, previously on showcase in the Belgian pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The installation explores how plant intelligence can regulate an indoor climate.

The exhibition 'Soft Power: The Brussels Way of Making the City' in the Luxembourg Centre for Architecture traces Belgium's journey to becoming an internationally renowned hotspot for contemporary architecture and urban planning. The show sheds light on the framework conditions that have given rise to a high-quality building culture in Brussels and encouraged a new generation of architects to participate in its urban development.

The Palais des Expositions de Charleroi, designed by AgwA in collaboration with architecten jan de vylder inge vinck, is among the seven finalists for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Awards 2026. The project will be featured in the travelling exhibition of the EUmies Awards, launching in May 2026 in Barcelona as part of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026.
