The “Fondazione Ca 'Romanino” and the Municipality of Urbino promote a public and shared reading marathon of the texts by Giancarlo De Carlo, many of which were inspired by the city of Urbino and addressed to it. Giancarlo De Carlo’s significant theoretical contribution to the debate on cities, architecture and landscape in Italy in the late twentieth century deserves to be included in the educational process of architecture and engineering schools, and can be important for the education of the young students to the heritage values.
The reading marathon will therefore be entrusted to the students and housed in De Carlo's places and architectures in the city of Urbino. The marathon should be realized as a form of a relay race with the participation of Italian and foreign universities visiting Urbino. The students sight will move from theory to the project and then the work of architecture.
‘Ri-leggere/Re-reading Giancarlo De Carlo’ will cover the entire 2013/2014 academic/school year with variable cadence according to the accessions of Universities and Italian and foreign schools. Adherents may determine the allocation of credits granted for the participation in the project.
Each stage of the marathon provides a space for reading and discussion led by lecturers and a visit to one or more works by Giancarlo De Carlo with overnight accommodation for one or two days. The single steps will be documented with film recordings in order to produce material and editorial information to serve as a teaching aid.
