Marie-José Van Hee architecten. A walk

In 1993, as a young architect, Marie-José Van Hee exhibited her work at DE SINGEL. At that point, it was already clear that she would have a lasting influence on the architectural landscape in Belgium and far beyond. Almost thirty years and four hundred projects later, the Flanders Architecture Institute is again inviting this grande dame of the Belgian architecture scene to stage an exhibition. In Marie-José Van Hee architecten. A walk not only are you introduced to her work, but you also walk through that of other architects, artists and thinkers. Marie-José Van Hee: “As an architect you cannot be an ego tripper. The whole point is that you are working with and for people.”

New edition Flanders Architectural Review holds a mirror up to the world of architecture
now available at vai.be

Contemporary architecture is facing social upheavals that are harder than ever to ignore. The housing shortage, changing visions on education, the collective past, public space and new care needs – these issues are becoming more urgent by the day. The hesitant response to such crises puts the (international) success of architecture from Flanders and Brussels into perspective.

Flanders Architectural Review N°15. Alliances with the Real showcases some of the most striking recent architecture in Flanders and Brussels and the surprising responses to the aforementioned challenges. Ten essays and two photo series provide critical reflection and hold a mirror up to the world of architecture. Alliances with the Real calls for social commitment and social entrepreneurship from all those who contribute to the (un)built environment.

from November 2022

On behalf of the Flanders Architecture Institute, curators Peter Swinnen & Anne Judong invited T.O.P. office to make a new work as the culmination of half a century of practice. The sculpture Bakboordstuurboord [Portstarboard] is a steel climbable staircase. It is a reuse of the staircase detail from Barcelona Towers 1989-92, a monumental proposal of Deleu for an apartment complex in Barcelona in the form of two identical towers, one upright and one horizontal.
