A special year

2021 promises to be an exceptional year in which architecture from Flanders and Brussels can once again spread its wings. With a major project around Luc Deleu and T.O.P. office, an ode to the designer duo Bataille & ibens, the participatory project Wiki Women Design and the Flemish contribution to the Biennale Architettura 2021, things are looking very promising!

21 Belgian nominees for Mies van der Rohe Award 2022

the nominees are...

The European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe announced the first list of 449 projects competing for the 2022 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. The majority of the 21 Belgian projects in this selection are located in Flanders and Brussels and have an educational or cultural purpose.

70 years Christian Kieckens

in the spotlight

On 24 January 2021 architect Christian Kieckens (1951-2020) would have turned 70. To put the oeuvre of this influencial architect in the spotlight the Flanders Architecture Institute, in close collaboration with the family and friends of Kieckens, presents a digital hommage.

We have collected an overview of the international media attention following his death, a glimpse into Christian Kieckens' extensive archive, a series of photo's by Kieckens and much more.

With the Instagram page @WomeninArchitectureBelgium, several Belgian architecture organizations are joining forces to create a platform for women in the Belgian architecture sector. For 52 weeks, each week a woman will take over the account and offer an insight into her experiences in the field. In this way, the account will cast a spotlight on the ─ often underexposed ─ role of women in practice, but also in architectural policy, research and education.

As part of the Future Plans project an archive presentation with work of Luc Deleu and T.O.P. office is on showcase at M HKA. Using archival material including models, photographs, clippings, designs and plans, we are given a unique insight into the creation, development and realisation of several striking buildings, such as the Dépendance Furka in Switzerland, the workplace of Panamarenko.
