Model landscape in Belgian pavilion at Venice architecture biennale

Only two more weeks to go for the Biennale Architettura 2021 to open its doors to the public. The world’s most important exhibition in the field of contemporary architecture will be the first big cultural event in Europe since the COVID-19 crisis. On the initiative of the Flemish Community and commissioned by the Flanders Architecture Institute, Bovenbouw Architectuur presents the exhibition Composite Presence in the Belgian pavilion. A model landscape illustrates the energetic friction between urban planning and architecture in Flanders.

Composite Presence Bovenbouw Architectuur 2020 We Document Art

The scenography by Bovenbouw Architectuur shows a piece of urban landscape on a scale of 1/15. The selection of projects depicts a healthy architectural ecology in which different styles, functions and typologies coincide.

Bovenbouw converted 50 projects of 45 contemporary Belgian practices into models, forming the imaginary landscape. The project selection reveals the importance of the current policies in Belgium when it comes to city planning and tendering.
