What are the social benefits of a construction sector that focuses on the transformation of existing buildings? In ‘As Found’, the Flanders Architecture Institute uses examples of national and international experiments to show the enormous potential of a built-up region like Flanders.

Curators Sofie De Caigny, Hülya Ertas and Bie Plevoets:"Architecture in Flanders and Brussels demonstrates a unique position in dealing with the existing built environment. Flanders Architecture Institute at De Singel, Antwerp

On 5 September Pritzker Prize winner Anne Lacaton (Lacaton & Vassal) will give a lecture at De Singel. The work of Parisian architecture practice Lacaton & Vassal illustrates the experimental handling of existing buildings like no other. This lecture marks the kick-off of the International Colloquium As Found, which will take place in Hasselt on 6 and 7 September.

From 6 to 7 September 2023, the Flanders Architecture Institute and Hasselt University organise the international colloquium As Found: Experiments in Preservation. The colloquium addresses designers, researchers and students with a focus on concepts and practices that intervene in the existing built environment, or 'as found architecture'.

In AMAG31 architecture from Flanders is very present. Projects by Jo Taillieu, Jan Vermeulen and Graux & Baeyens are highlighted, next to a text of Marc Dubois about the Flemish Government Architect and the Flanders Architecture Institute.

The Architekturzentrum Wien (AZW) invited Dirk Somers (Bovenbouw Architectuur, Antwerp) Aslı Çiçek (Brussels) Kersten Geers (OFFICE, Brussels) Stefanie Everaert and Caroline Lateur (Doorzon, Ghent) to go into dialogue with the work of architect Hans Hollein.

The exhibition Solid Senses about the work of URA Yves Malysse Kiki Verbeeck, which was on display in Bozar in 2021, is this summer on showcase in Usquert near Groningen. The recently restored town hall by the Dutch architect Hendrik Berlage forms the new setting for the expo.
