As Found book shows unique approaches in preservation

In addition to the As Found exhibition the Flanders Architecture Institute presents the book As Found. Experiments in Preservation. The book focuses on seven experimental approaches in preservation today: ensemble, void, reconfiguration, inside out, traces, mirror and nuance. These are explored through essays, realized projects and international references.

'Architecture in Flanders and Brussels demonstrates a unique position in dealing with the existing built environment. Although the experimental approaches vary according to the design methodologies, the interventions always show audacity, whether it is a medieval structure or a twentieth-century building.’

- editors Sofie De Caigny, Hülya Ertas and Bie Plevoets

Film by Malgorzata Maria Olchowska on showcase at film festival AFFR
08.10.2023 | Rotterdam

Belgian-Polish architect Malgorzata Maria Olchowska coalesces drawing and architecture in a short animation film, in which a city is built and demolished, then rebuilt, and so on – even as waves crash. A film about transience and temporariness, with an imploring, Laurie Anderson-like voice-over and cheerful shapes and colours reminiscent of De Stijl. Even so, I am not going to cry is unsettling. Małgorzata Maria Olchowska clearly had the war in Ukraine and the recent major earthquakes in Turkey in mind.

Waiting Rooms of Architecture
available now

The Flanders Architecture Institute published a book on the work of Malgorzata Maria Olchowska, titled Waiting Rooms of Architecture. The book is built around a text by Vlad Ionescu (Faculty of Architecture and Art, PXL/UHasselt) in which he reflects on the work of Olchowska, from 2009 to today. This is supplemented and illustrated by means of a visual essay in which Olchowska shows her work of the last five years.
