What can be created when love and imagination reinforce each other? Stardust: A Story of Love and Architecture takes you into the intimate universe of Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, two of the most influential architects of the second half of the twentieth century.
For more than fifty years, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown shared a life full of humour, wit and creative daring. They turned against the dominant modernism of their time and advocated complexity and learning from the everyday landscape. Their partnership became a new model of equal collaboration, in which love and intellect constantly challenge and reinforce each other.
But their journey also had its downsides. In a male-dominated world, Denise often had to fight for recognition. The controversial awarding of the Pritzker Prize – in which she was not honoured – became a symbol of inequality within the architectural world. Stardust is a deeply human film that invites you to travel through memories, buildings and ideas.
Jim Venturi (director & producer) and Anita Naughton (writer & editor) are the filmmakers of Stardust. Jim’s debut documentary offers a rare and personal look at his parents’ lives, informed by over a decade of filming and dozens of interviews with architects, artists and collaborators from all over the world. Stardust is a deeply human film that invites you to travel through memories, buildings and ideas.
