With the arrival of spring, everything acquires a bit more colour. Green replaces brown, blossoms open and birds’ nests take shape. As does the Flanders Architecture Institute’s programme. Spring ushers in a host of vibrant projects, exhibitions, lectures and books. Here’s a small taste of what’s to come...

The Flanders Architecture Institute and deSingel are launching Future Plans, an exhibition comprising work by Luc Deleu & T.O.P. office. Never before has so much work created by this extraordinarily idiosyncratic design office been brought together. Curators Peter Swinnen and Anne Judong were given unlimited access to the archives of T.O.P. office. The result is an exhibition hall bursting at the seams with installations in and around deSingel, unique archive material and new future plans.

This summer, Venice will host the Biennale Architettura 2021, the world’s most important exhibition in the field of contemporary architecture. On the initiative of the Flemish Community and commissioned by the Flanders Architecture Institute, the Antwerp-based office Bovenbouw Architectuur will present the exhibition Composite Presence in the Belgian pavilion. A model landscape with 50 reference projects will show the contemporary city in Flanders and Brussels in all its complexity. Dirk Somers (Bovenbouw): ‘Composite Presence embodies the love-hate relationship between architecture and city.’
