Flanders Architectural Review N°15

In the autumn of 2022, the Flanders Architecture Institute will publish the newest edition of the Flanders Architectural Review. This biennial series of publications will be in its fifteenth edition next year. Each time, the Architectural Review brings together the most remarkable architectural projects in Flanders and Brussels, as well as the international work of architects from Flanders and Brussels. For each edition the Flanders Architecture Institute puts together a new editorial board who work on the book based on project submissions. So make sure to send in your work!

The deadline to upload projects is 17 September.

Portrait of a Landscape. Pierre-Philippe Hofmann
31.08.2021 | 20:00h | DE SINGEL

For the Portrait of a Landscape project, Pierre-Philippe Hofmann took ten walks from the outer borders of Switzerland to the centre of the country, Älggi Alp in the Obwalden canton. During his journey of more than 2,700 kilometres, the artist shot a video for each kilometre. How can you capture the immaterial essence of this artistic action in a material object such as an exhibition or a book?

On 31 August we will discuss Pierre-Philippe Hofmann's work, the dialogue between architecture and landscape, and how to capture this dialogue in an exhibition and a book. Curator Heidi Ballet and researcher Steven Humblet will join Hofmann for the opening talk which will be moderated by Simon Delobel.

Pavilion Days - Mediation in Architecture
24.09.2021

With Mediation in Architecture, the Flanders Architecture Institute is participating in the public programme Pavilion Days 2021 from 23 to 24 September at the Architecture Biennale in Venice.

In collaboration with the City Architect of Brussels, we organize an international panel discussion, on 24 September in the Belgian pavilion. The focus will be on valuable strategies and practices in mediation in architecture, and on how they can foster inclusion and sustainability. Many of the projects that form part of the model landscape in the Belgian pavilion are the outcome of mediation of the Flanders Government Architect, the City Architect of Antwerp and the City Architect of Ghent, partners of Composite Presence.
