Symposium
To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Dhondt-Dhaenens Museum (MDD), the Juliaan Lampens vzw and the VAi are putting the renowned architect Juliaan Lampens in the spotlight. On 5 November 2026, a symposium will be held at MDD, followed by an exhibition running from 29 November 2026 to 14 March 2027. During this period, guided tours to the Van Wassenhove House will also be organised.
The symposium brings together an internationally renowned group of architects, historians, critics, engineers and academics to highlight the enduring relevance of Lampens’s body of work and legacy. Through lectures and discussions, both his iconic residential projects and public commissions will be explored, with particular attention paid to the radical and idiosyncratic nature of his architecture.

The exhibition brings together a carefully curated selection of Lampens’ work, featuring both iconic projects and previously unseen drawings and archive material from the Juliaan Lampens Archive. Hand-drawn sketches, plans, models and design documents offer a unique insight into his characteristic working methods and spatial thinking.
The house, designed by architect Juliaan Lampens and built between 1972 and 1974 in Sint-Martens-Latem, is regarded as a masterpiece of Belgian modernist architecture. Concrete, timber and glass come together in a single open-plan living space in which all functions flow seamlessly into one another. With its distinctive geometric forms and exceptional play of light, the house offers a unique perspective on living and space.
From 29 November to 14 March 2027, you will have the unique opportunity to visit the iconic Van Wassenhove House.
