On 5 March Emily Wickham of the London-based collective Assemble opens Atelier As Found, an exhibition of student works from Flanders and Brussels focusing on adaptive reuse. Wickham will share projects of Assemble and ideas behind them, with regards to dealing with the existing.
Based in the UK, Assemble is a multi-disciplinary collective working acrossarchitecture, design and art. They work with multiple scales ranging from furniture tourban design, yet always with an attention to the existing context. Assemble is knownfor its participatory processes, opening up the design question towards a rich range ofactors, such as users, inhabitants and communities. Moreover, they integrate the notion of time, craftsmanship and social realm in their practice in novel and precise ways.
Emily Wickham is a designer at Assemble and is a tutor at Nottingham University. Her work reflects her interest in civic projects, materials and making. She is currently designing a public park in Bermondsey and embarking on the design of a Maggie’s Centre in Kent. She is a keen footballer and member of the grassroots female footballing community.
