On 25 April, the Flanders Architecture Institute and architect-philosopher Gideon Boie will present a book about the extraordinary health care institution Monnikenheide. In this unique setting in Zoersel, for 50 years high-quality architecture and inclusive care for people with disabilities go hand in hand. During a dazzling program, we will shed light on this unique care center together with the architects, residents, staff and clients involved.
book
Monnikenheide in Zoersel is a residential care centre for people with mental disabilities. A special place for special people, it is examined from an architectural perspective for the first time in this book. In the fifty-year building history of Monnikenheide, different architects have gone in search of new spatial possibilities, with inclusion as leitmotif. This has created a unique landscape that transcends the boundaries of care architecture. Monnikenheide is a powerful architectural statement about the place of people in society who depend on care.

Accessibility for wheelchairs / walking frames
DE SINGEL has 7 parking spaces for people with a disability. Upon production of your car park entry ticket, you can purchase a parking ticket for €5 that is valid all evening. You can also purchase a ticket at the ticket machine for €2 per hour.
There are spaces reserved for wheelchair users in all of our halls. Please contact us in advance at tickets@desingel.be so that we can reserve a space for you.
In the majority of halls, you can walk right up to your seat using your walking frame. Once the performance starts, one of our staff can remove this from the hall for you to ensure that the gangways remain unobstructed. After the performance, a member of staff will ensure that your walking frame is delivered back to you.
Would you like assistance to access the hall? Would you like to borrow a wheelchair from us?
