The thirteenth edition of Table Setting is dedicated to Aga Batkiewicz. From a fascination for landscape, infrastructure and stories in space, she presents a special reading of the surroundings of De Singel. On the evening of Tuesday 29 April, Aga Batkiewicz will present her Table Setting and we will open the installation.
Aga Batkiewicz is a Polish architect who lives and works in Ghent. She is a collaborator at NU architectuuratelier and teaches at Sint-Lucas (KU Leuven). In addition, she works under her own name, but mainly in collaboration with an international network of befriended makers.
Recurring themes in her work are interfaces between man-made and natural environment, architecture and graphic representation, and attention to often forgotten space users. She reads space not only as physical constructions, but also as carriers of stories, history and changing relationships.
In Table Setting #13, Aga Batkiewicz focuses her particular gaze at the immediate surroundings of the exhibition space of De Singel. Using the tables as a supporting structure, she is making a reconstruction of the landscape on the Antwerp ring road. To this end, she brings together various media and materials, such as 'samples' of forgotten elements from the environment and photography by Jason Ladrigan. The result is her interpretation of the ring landscape, in which Batkiewicz draws attention to forgotten places, stories and characters.
