Brick Wall City (BWC) deals with the social impact of 'sustainable building' on the basis of the practice of sustainable building. In doing so it tackles an important but controversial theme in architecture as a fully-fledged research topic. At the same time, BWC wants to celebrate the cultural and social aspects of brick architecture, reflect with a critical eye on contemporary trends and phenomena, and set out future speculative paths for brick-based building and design. In addition to a series of building and research projects, BWC provides an opportunity to reflect on the relationships between architecture and the urban environment, focusing on different levels and dimensions. Overall BWC deals with the recalibrated relationship between materials, construction methods and appearance since the EPB era. It focuses specifically on brick, the building material that characterizes our built environment and injects it with a limitless number of layers of significance. Reflections from 15 years of practical experience and a number of striking buildings from the oeuvre of BLAF Architects have helped shape the BWC trajectory.
