The new bookshop is meant to become a significant part of the identity of the future Palais de Tokyo in Paris. It will be an integral part of the existing framework of Palais de Tokyo, but at the same time become a destination in its own right, with its own distinct identity. OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen has simply placed 2x4m wooden bookshelves, painted in a bright yellow gloss, within the existing space. In some places they follow the contours of the existing room and function as practical bookshelves. In other parts they become free standing, presenting an impressive curved display tempting visitors into the shop. The bookcases offer the flexibility to attach additional elements such as perforated metal rear panels, a glass facade, sliding doors and curtains. This way the bookcases accommodate the requirements of a functional bookstore in the simplest possible way.
