Herbestemming steenkapperijloods

Conversion of a stonemason’s shed in Gentbrugge into a workshop and home for a sculptor by GAFPA. The architects have inserted an accommodation volume and a work volume into the industrial shed, made of wood and glass. The south wall of the home looks out onto a garden created by means of a surgical incision within the existing shed, while the concrete trusses of the latter have a raw, monumental strength that delineates the outdoor space like a Brutalist sculpture. Here too, the existing structure determines the conditions of habitation.
