ATELIER VENS VANBELLE - GHENT

Stijn en Annemie

In collaboration with Atelier Vens Vanbelle, the remaining building of a former school was transformed into a fully-fledged home. The architects raised the ground floor to the bottom of the windows. Following the contours of the curved windows, they created new spaces, ensuring that the façade was also visibly present in the interior, where the hall, kitchen and office space are located. The living space has been given a central place in the design and connects all other rooms. Light enters from every angle. The patio is lined with mirrored glass, reflecting the light throughout the house. The kitchen connects the living room with the upper floor. Upstairs you will come across the bathroom first, followed by 3 rooms for the children and the master bedroom. The garden adjoins a parking lot and is lined with mirrored materials, creating the illusion of an even larger garden.

This project was opened on the occasion of the 2019 Day of Architecture. The text is based on a contribution by Céline Wyffels.
