A detail does not exist in itself, but by definition through a larger whole. However, details have a major influence on the experience of a building, such as jointing and masonry, the treatment of bluestone or applications in joinery. They are not just nice accents, but often essential characteristics of a particular architectural style.
"Details establish a gradual and discreet relationship with the attentive observer."‐ Stefaan Grieten, collection manager
