Models are an important tool for architects during the design and construction process, while for laypersons they increase the readability of a design. The reduced three-dimensional world is easy to grasp, recognizable and often more accessible than a drawing. As a heritage object, models have a distinct documentary, cultural-historical and aesthetic value.
"The rich model collection of the Flanders Architecture Institute comprises more than 300 objects. It includes different types of models, on different scales and made using different techniques and materials. These scale models relate to architecture, interior design, urban planning and landscape, and date from around 1920 to the present day."‐ Dirk Laureys, collection manager
