In the spring of 2014 the University of Antwerp faculty Design Sciences and the Flemish Architecture Institute will once again be joining forces. With 'NL-VL RESET 2014' we will examine how architects in the Netherlands have redefined their profession against the background of the economic crisis and the profound cultural reorientation which our Dutch neighbours have been experiencing in recent years.
Is a 'return to order' in evidence after the hype of the SuperDutch architecture of the Nineties? Can architects once again focus on their craft in the current context and do they even need to? How can new artistic themes and strategies be developed against the backdrop of the erosion or architectural policy in the Netherlands? Or does this reorientation instead provide opportunities for the architectural practice?
We are interested in seeing how this new Dutch architecture positions itself within its own context and what is the relevance of the relationship with the various architectural cultures in Flanders and in North-Western Europe.
