The 21st-century city needs ideas and stories that confirm its relevance. This edition of Projections focuses on a timeless subcutaneous logic of the city, one that builds on the past with a view to the future.
Thus creating the resilience needed to not only withstand unexpected changes, but also to design for urgent and unanticipated possibilities. In this exhibition, the Faculty of Design Sciences at the University of Antwerp goes in search of the mechanisms that invent, imagine and design the city.
The existence of the city is self-evident, but the intense development process often remains hidden. Behind the visible metropolis lies a laboratory in which knowledge is constantly transferred and developed.
From Imagination to City showcases projects that are the tangible result of design research, as applied to the Antwerp metropolitan area. Architecture appears as the foundation of the draft proposals and as a presence in the city.
