Under the current circumstances the opening of the exhibition Unfolding the Archives #2 Juliaan Lampens and the booklaunch of Juliaan Lampens. 1950-1991 on 12 November at 08:00pm could not take place in front of a live audience. Instead we provide a video-interview.
On 12 November, we presented the reissue of the book Juliaan Lampens. 1950 - 1991. Sofie De Caigny (director of the Flanders Architecture Institute) talked to architect Koen Dekeyser and Katrien Vandermarliere. After the talk a video interview with architect and curator Jo Taillieu with images from the exhibition was shown.
The non-profit organisation vzw Juliaan Lampens, which manages Juliaan Lampens’ archive, is currently hard at work cataloguing, digitising and unlocking its contents. It contains a wide variety of pieces, including design sketches, composition sketches, exploratory drawings and architectural plans for both completed and unbuilt projects, and full-scale architectural details. These working documents demonstrate the importance that Lampens attached to the craft of drawing and materialisation. In his long career as a teacher and professor at Sint-Lucas in Ghent, he inspired several generations of architects. For the exhibition Unfolding the Archives #2 Juliaan Lampens, we therefore invite some of his pupils to make a selection from his legacy.
