On 19 May, VAi is organising an online opening event for the exhibition Unfolding the Archives #3 Bataille & ibens. Curator Eva Storgaard will be in conversation with Claire Bataille, Marc Dubois and former colleagues from Bataille & ibens. Watch the discussion live on our YouTube channel and on this page.
Typical of Bataille & ibens’ design practice is the quest for what can be described as the ‘invisible presence’. For Bataille and ibens, the power of the intervention lay in-between the existing space and the transformation. The result feels self-evident, as though it has always been there. This pursuit of the invisible notwithstanding, balancing on the interface between late modernism, post modernism and minimalism, they developed their own unique signature. Their design interventions, regardless of size or scale, were always developed on the basis of precise detailing. In Unfolding the Archives #3, curator Eva Storgaard takes the ‘present absence’ as her starting point for opening up a fresh perspective on Bataille & ibens’ oeuvre.
During the opening Eva Storgaard will be in conversation with Claire Bataille, Marc Dubois and former colleagues. There will be an exchange of opinions about core themes from Bataille & ibens’ oeuvre and about illustrative archive pieces from the exhibition.
On 19 May at 8 pm you will find the link to the YouTube premiere here.
The third episode in the series Unfolding the Archives turns the spotlight on interior architects Bataille & ibens. Architect and curator Eva Storgaard takes the ‘present absence’ as her starting point, thus offering a fresh perspective on the famous design duo’s oeuvre.
