Architect and researcher Sophia Holst is the third architect to take part in Table Setting. In this exhibition series, young designers from Flanders and Brussels take up position on the square in front of De Singel, using a set of display tables and accompanying attributes. In Table Setting #3, Holst turns the spotlight on the often overlooked rooftop landscape of De Singel. In doing so, she examines the untapped potential of public outdoor space on the arts campus.

In 2021, Composite Presence was on show at the Venice Architecture Biennale. The presentation by Bovenbouw Architectuur was very well received there and is now coming to Belgium for the first time. In Z33, a life-size model of fifty buildings exposes the friction between city and architecture.

At the end of October, the Flanders Architecture Institute will publish the latest edition of the Flanders Architectural Review. The biennial publication is in its fifteenth edition. The review brings together a rich selection of much-discussed recent projects that offer a surprising response to the challenges architects face today.Ten essays and two photo series critically reflect upon and hold up a mirror to the architectural field. The book calls for social engagement and social entrepreneurship from all who contribute to the (un)built environment.

Belgian architect Christian Kieckens passed away on 11 May 2020 in Brussels. The Flanders Architecture Institute, that manages both its archive and its library, will open a permanent exhibition and study in November as a tribute to Christian's many achievements in architecture.

Almost thirty years after her first solo exhibition, the renowned architect Marie-José Van Hee is coming back to De Singel with a series of spatial interventions in the exhibition hall as well as in and around the arts campus. Her interventions will be a means of taking care of Léon Stynen’s architecture by making visible the spatial qualities of the building and its relationship with the arts.
