The issue of conversion is currently at the forefront of the tasks facing architecture, construction policy and, increasingly, the property industry. The ongoing debate about the climate crisis in times of raw material shortages, supply chain problems and rising interest rates makes continuing to build in existing buildings appear to be an almost unavoidable alternative to the high-emission, resource- and waste-intensive practice of demolition and new construction.
The latest issue of Arch+ focuses on reconversion. Belgian names and projects pop up in the magazine like Théâtre des Variétés from OUEST and Flores & Prats, Jan De Vylder with three statements, three projects and one question, architects Jan De Vylder Inge Vinck with their projects Rot-Ellen-Berg and PC Caritas, also CHAPEX, desgined together with AgwA. In 2023-2024 Chapex was also one of the projects in the exhibition As Found. And finally Lot 8 from BC Architects, Atelier LUMA and Assemble.
