Design competition Scheldt bridge and quays in Antwerp
The Big Link project in Antwerp calls for a new and easy connection for pedestrians and cyclists between Antwerp’s left and right bank. Besides the new tunnel under the river Scheldt for cars and cyclists in the north, a bridge over the river Scheldt in the south will bring both banks closer to each other. In order not to interfere with ship traffic on the river the bridge will partly open.
The reconstruction of the quay wall and the new water barrier will be spatially integrated in a new public space design for the quays. Comfortable waiting areas on both sides and a viewing platform on the right bank will enhance the experience of crossing the bridge.
De Vlaamse Waterweg nv and the city of Antwerp have launched the public tender in order to select a multidisciplinary team for the design of the bridge and the quays through a Design Build Maintain (DBM) procedure.
