Flow, a project by the Brussels based organisation Pool is Cool, is one of five finalists of the European Prize for Urban Public Space.
Flow, designed and built with the participation of fifty young people, is the first open-air swimming pool to be constructed in Brussels in forty years. This project introduces a temporary structure that establishes a rich meeting place for enjoying fresh air and water. As a simple, economical, modular system that can easily be built by many hands, it presents a good example of how everyone can participate in creating an active, healthy public space.
This honorary Prize, which is awarded to both authors and promoters of works from the 47 member states comprising the European Council, gives the maximum possible exposure to the works that have been selected by means of a network of European associates and partners. Among the main objectives of the Prize—working together with experts and architectural, academic, and cultural institutions from all over the continent—are those of functioning as an observatory of European cities and becoming a space of reference for debate about the challenges of urban public space.
