In Salzburg, Austria, cs-architektur ZT GmbH, together with Belgian-Austrian stijn nagels | architecture atelier and landscape architect Peter Aicher, realised an extension of a social housing estate with an innovative energy concept.
The project won the klimaaktiv GOLD award in Austria for its ecological approach. Heat is generated from wastewater and optimal use is made of wood, for example.
About the project
Twenty-four brand-new homes were constructed. The floorplans of the fifty-one pre-existing houses were redesigned with reference to integral accessibility and the incidence of light was completely revised.
To preserve the existing character of the neighbourhood, certain design rules were prioritised: demolish only where necessary, do not exceed the existing building contour and preserve the silhouette of the facades.
