Project manager digital archives

Are you an experienced project manager, passionate about IT and with a heart for open source and digital preservation? Then SCALA is your thing!

SCALA

SCALA is a joint project of nine heritage institutions in Flanders and Brussels, who are developing a system for the long-term preservation of born-digital archives with historical value. SCALA is conceived as a proof of concept of a shared preservation system. This e-repository stores archives in information packages according to the OAIS model and the new European standard E-ARK. It is open source and developed by an external IT vendor.

SCALA is a pioneer in Flanders in implementing E-ARK and is organizing an E-ARK workgroup with external partners, with whom we want to achieve a standard model for information packages. This model should promote sustainability, system independence and collaboration.

SCALA is a project that runs in two phases. You will be recruited within phase 1 that runs until April 30, 2022. During phase 2, we aim to capture the findings of phase 1 into a cost structure and collaboration model between SCALA partners. The second phase will run from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023.

Place of employment is the Flanders Architecture Institute in Antwerp, which is in charge of the overall project coordination. The other SCALA partner organizations are ADVN, Amsab-ISG, AMVB, Archiefpunt, AVG-Carhif, CAVA, Letterenhuis and meemoo. All partners are represented in the SCALA steering committee.

Start of employment: immediately available as of May 1, 2021

  • You update the specification of the E-ARK information package and organize the consultation moments with the E-ARK working group.
  • You plan and organize the evaluation of the digital repository. You guide the SCALA partners in using and testing the digital repository.

  • You work in a structured and planned way. You can guard your priorities
  • You are an analytical, critical and solution-oriented thinker, with a sense of creativity.
  • Experience with IT business models is not necessary, but a plus in view of phase 2
