Are you an experienced project manager, passionate about IT and with a heart for open source and digital preservation? Then SCALA is your thing!
The Flanders Architecture Institute is open to talents from everyone in our rich and diverse society. We attach great importance to diversity and welcome any applications from people now under-represented in our organisation.
The Flanders Architecture Institute is the main centre for information about architecture from Flanders and Brussels. We want to draw the public’s attention to the importance of a well designed living environment, we want to encourage the social debate about the design of buildings/cities and spread information about architecture. Since 2018 the Flanders Architecture Institute manages an exceptionally rich and growing collection of architectural archives and constantly expanding library. Through the collection, the institute links past, present and future of architecture.
SCALA is a joint project of nine heritage institutions in Flanders and Brussels, who are developing a system for the long-term preservation of born-digital archives with historical value. SCALA is conceived as a proof of concept of a shared preservation system. This e-repository stores archives in information packages according to the OAIS model and the new European standard E-ARK. It is open source and developed by an external IT vendor.
SCALA is a pioneer in Flanders in implementing E-ARK and is organizing an E-ARK workgroup with external partners, with whom we want to achieve a standard model for information packages. This model should promote sustainability, system independence and collaboration.
SCALA is a project that runs in two phases. You will be recruited within phase 1 that runs until April 30, 2022. During phase 2, we aim to capture the findings of phase 1 into a cost structure and collaboration model between SCALA partners. The second phase will run from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023.
Place of employment is the Flanders Architecture Institute in Antwerp, which is in charge of the overall project coordination. The other SCALA partner organizations are ADVN, Amsab-ISG, AMVB, Archiefpunt, AVG-Carhif, CAVA, Letterenhuis and meemoo. All partners are represented in the SCALA steering committee.
Start of employment: immediately available as of May 1, 2021
As a SCALA project manager, you take the lead in the project. You closely follow the development and evaluation of the e-repository and are the hub between the IT supplier and the SCALA partners. You organize the consultation moments of the E-ARK workgroup, elaborate the specification for E-ARK compliant information packages and handle the reporting:
We offer you a full-time employment in a stimulating work environment for 12 months and a salary in category L1 in accordance with the scales in the socio-cultural sector (PC 329.01) in Flanders. The duration of the contract can be extended if phase 2 of the project continues.
