The Book ‘Roofscape Design. Regenerating the City upon the City’ provides a survey of worldwide experiences of city rooftop re-use strategies such as building-on and integrating new volumes within the existing buildings.
The Kendall building by Stramien is one of the 24 casesstudies. The projects show the innovation on traditional typologies by offering multiple ways of living, working and using public services in the city.
On the Kendall building: “The existing mansard roof of the building was not high enough and was therefore replaced with a new transparent steel structure. The new extension visually contraste with the existing building: but while the exterior of the building clearly differs from the new vertical extension, the compositional language and the spatial layout inside are the same, unifying the new and the old parts. “
