The Flanders Architecture Institute invites architects, urban planners, designers, researchers, critics, and artists to develop an exhibition concept for the Belgian pavilion at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale. This call for submissions aligns with the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, scheduled from 10 May to 23 November 2025.
This call seeks for proposals that explore themes of pressing relevance to contemporary international discourse in art or architecture. The open call is directed at multidisciplinary teams led by a professional in the field of architecture who is either based in Flanders or Brussels or can evidence significant cultural integration.
Proposals must be both theoretically robust and conceptually rich, crafted to captivate visitors through impactful visual and physical experiences within the Belgian pavilion.
The Flanders Architecture Institute commits to providing detailed oversight throughout the concept’s evolution. Furthermore, the envisioned project should offer flexibility for adaptation to suit potential future exhibitions in other venues.
While the selection of the Flemish entry for the Belgian pavilion at 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale will proceed without reference to its yet-to-be-announced overarching theme, the chosen project should, where possible, echo the principal theme of the event.

The Board of Directors of La Biennale di Venezia appointed Carlo Ratti as Director of the Architecture Department, with the specific task of curating the 19th International Architecture Exhibition.
“We architects like to think we are smart, but real intelligence is everywhere. The disembodied ingenuity of evolution, the growing power of computers, and the collective wisdom of the crowd. To face a burning world, architecture must harness all the intelligence around us. I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to curate the Biennale Architettura 2025.” - Carlo Ratti.
