deSingel and the Flemish Architecture Institute are offering eight young firms of architects a platform to introduce their ideas on architecture, urban planning and landscape design to a broad public, and this in the course of two seasons. They are also giving them the task of carrying out a piece of design-based research.
This second season we shall see four projects: a master-plan for a neo-gothic psychiatric care institution, a new coastal town on the North Sea for 2080, a design for the imaginary Ghent 2013 World Exhibition and a design for a minimal house that can be built with and by the occupants after a disaster.
All four are stimulating exercises that may provide solutions for pressing social issues and intellectually challenging questions. They also provide material for critical debate, not only between several generations of architects, but also between architects and the public. These designs are presented simply on the walls of our corridors, where you can comment on them directly. Freely, openly and frankly. 'Young makers thinkers dreamers - architecture in Flanders' lets you get to know a new generation of designers in Flanders. Poetic, creative, socially emotive, questioning, investigative and critical.
