On 22 September 2014 a digitization project of three Belgian architectural periodicals was officially launched. The Centre for Flemish Architectural Archives (CVAa, Antwerp), the Hendrik Conscience Heritage Library (Antwerp) and the Ghent University Library got the support of the King Baudouin Foundation (Fonds Inbev-Baillet Latour) to realize this digitization.
Four Belgian periodicals, frequently consulted by students and researchers in the Antwerp and Ghent collection, will be digitized: L'Émulation, L'Habitation à bon marché, L'Osature Métalique and Bâtir. The project partners chose to digitize with a view to a durable, high-quality conservation copy, in order to minimize manipulation of the sometimes fragile original copies.
Based on selection procedure and test scans executed over the summer, the firm Acmis now officially started the digitizing proces. Vlaamse Erfgoedbibliotheek and Packed supported the project partners in the process of selection and control of the test scans.
The process will be completed by the end of the year. The results will be presented in spring 2015. The CVAa hopes to continue digitizing Belgian architectural periodicals and share its experience with this first project with other partner libraries.
