The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Awards has unveiled the list of the seven finalist projects for its 2026 edition. Among them, the Palais des Expositions de Charleroi (Chapex) stands out as the only Belgian project.
Designed by the Brussels-based architecture office AgwA, in collaboration with architecten jan de vylder inge vinck, the project is shortlisted in the Architecture category. This international recognition highlights both the architectural and urban significance of the project, as well as AgwA’s ability to work on complex public facilities, at the intersection of adaptive reuse and contemporary architectural expression.
In March 2026, the international jury of the EUmies Awards will visit all finalist projects before selecting the winners.
The Architecture and Emerging Architecture awards will be announced on 16 April 2026 in Oulu, Finland, as part of the European Capital of Culture 2026 programme.
The EUmies Awards Days will then take place in May 2026 in Barcelona, within the framework of Barcelona World Capital of Architecture 2026. The city will host the award ceremony at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, along with conferences, debates and meetings with architects, clients, jurors and European institutions, as well as an exhibition presenting all 410 nominated projects.
